Letter-A-Day: D

Yesterday I was off work and didn't had anything on my schedule so I decided to do something more ambitious than a 4" tall bunny this time. So I made a dress, well, sort of. You see, this is way I make quilts. When I learned to sew I started by making clothes but I am really bad at the fitting part. So I go thru all the trouble of making something to have it not fit right. Quilts are flat and you don't need to fit them and that works for me. So I spent all day yesterday, and I mean all day, (I started sewing at 9 am and finished at 10 pm with a few eating breaks in the middle and I still have some finishing to do) making this dress and I am happy with the way it came out but it is a little too short for a dress (yeah, even too short for me) so I'll wear it with leggings or something. I got the pattern free from the site BurdaStyle.com. It is a great site with a lot of free patterns that you can print at home.

The fabric is a linen-like polyester embroidered in white and grey threads. I already hear you saying "You should make this to sell!" I can't sell clothes I make because they take too long to make and people don't want to pay $200 for a dress they can get for $40 plus my sewing inside the dress is not that great and there is always that fitting part... Thru the years I have learned how to fit myself, sort of, and not make anything too fitted but I couldn't imagine fitting someone else. As you can see Dinsky was helping me a lot.
